Meeting the co-founders of COAST

Oceanographic

Our first ever Storyteller in Residence, wildlife photographer, writer, and expedition leader Henley Spiers, is currently on the Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland to research and photograph his first full SiR feature for us. In this 'Despatches: From the field' video, he talks to the co-founders of COAST, the Community of Arran Seabed Trust.

COAST  was founded in 1995 by avid divers Howard Wood and Don MacNeish to counteract destructive fishing practices like scallop dredging that had decimated the seabed and its marine life off the island.

After 13 years of campaigning, Howard and Don managed to establish the 2008 Declaration of the Lamlash Bay No Take Zone, the first community-led marine reserve of its kind in Scotland.
