Exploring a voluntary marine reserve

Oceanographic

After visiting the Isle of Arran, our Storyteller in Residence, wildlife photographer, writer, and expedition leader Henley Spiers, is now in St Abbs and Eyemouth in Berwickshire. What drew him here is the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve. Set up in 1984, it is the only voluntary marine reserve in Scotland.

After visiting the Isle of Arran and exploring its marine conservation incentives, Henley travelled to St Abbs and Eyemouth, his second location to research a wider SiR story on marine protection around Scotland. Here, he explores the area’s voluntary marine reserve. “ St Abbs and Eyemouth are meccas for UK diving,” says Henley. “It hosts an unusual abundance and variety of marine life.”
